New glargine

Hey guys! I've just done my first injection of my new basal insulin!!! I was previously on Lanctus glargine (24 units) but I was experiencing horrific pain when injecting it and nocturnal hypos every night. My consultant prescribed this new insulin (he gets very excited by these things) and today I have taken Toujeo glargine to replace Lanctus. Already, I'm thrilled to say no pain whatsoever!!! Will still have to see how the night goes and give it a few days to start working as it should continue to. But if you're having similar problems, it sounds like this is the way to go.
 
My friend's 30 year old daughter was switched to it from Lantus and seems to be under better control with it. I personally don't have any pain at the injection site but it's good that yours is gone. There was just a "generic" competitor to Lantus released in the US in December called Basaglar in pens only. I'm going to switch to it soon. Just curious, do you pay any more for Toujeo than you did for Lantus? I pay $120 for a 10cc bottle of Lantus take 25/day. I realize Toujeo is 300U/cc comes in 1.5cc pens (=450U/pen) so do you get 2 pens per box? Also the prescribing info says you will need more units of Toujeo than you did for Lantus. That true or do you know yet?
 
I don't pay for prescriptions so I honestly don't know how much you would have to pay but my consultant told the GP on the phone that they were the same price - whether that's an NHS price only I'm not sure. There are 3 pens per pack. The consultant has told me to start on the same units and, although he didn't say about changing them, I am aware that a change is likely to be made. I am due to start on a pump in less than 2 months so I'm not sure if I'll even be able to make any changes in that time.
 
Well that's good news with regards to the pain @jemmaedias , lets hope the night goes well and your good progress continues.
 
In the Netherlands, I get 3 pens and my insurance records show they cost about €45-50 together. Don't know how much Lantus costs as I've never used it, I was put on Toujeo when I needed insulin from the start, but hope this is still helpful.

Awesome! Were you having bad values before on Lantus? I'm very pleased with Toujeo myself, I've had minimal nypos, the few I did have were contributed to other causes and not the Toujeo. I never have any pain from the injections either, except for when I hit a nerve with the needle. Hope this continues to work out for you!
