I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetis in October last year after being unwell for almost two months with a chest infection. I was constantly tired had no energy and lost 1 stone within a month. Thankfully my recovery was much quicker!! Only three days in hospital and i was back home and had gained 4 lbs (probably all fluids!!)
I was off work for 5 1/2 weeks as i was still really struggling with energy levels. The doctors wanted to sign me off until xmas but i returned to work late November and was glad i did as it isnt until you get back to normality that you can really get a grasp on your diabetis. When i was off it all seemed so easy, my sugar levels where great! When i first went back to work i really struggled, early starts, being more active, eating at different times due to meetings etc i suffered quite a few hypos, especially during the night. I actually found myself becoming quite depressed and if i am honest it has only been the past few weeks that i have truly felt back to my old self again!
But now that i have FINALLY come to terms with the changes in my life i thought i would join this forum and learn as much as i can about taking care of myself and any hints and tips, until now i guess i didnt want to admit that this is me living with diabetis now for the rest of my life....but it is....and thats ok by me now!!!
