Same here !Welcome to the forum ! I was diagnosed last summer initially as Type 2 because of my age even though I am very thin. I was 63 ! I was prescribed a truck-load of medication that didn't work and which harmed me according to the liver specialist I was referred to. Eventually I saw an endocrinologist who diagnosed me as type 1. Once on insulin, my life turned 'round. Took me some getting used to what foods sky-rocket my blood sugar, what's working for me foodwise and about insulin doses. Now it's just part of the daily routine. This forum gives me the knowledge I need. I lost all confidence in my general doctor and will never go back to him. When I told him the endo said I was type 1, he said I must have had it from childhood and didn't know ! There's always more to learn and it's fascinating. Best of luck with your journey.
They say I must have been type 1 from birth
hi mad76 i was diagnosed 2 years ago aged 49 and it was a big life changer for me but eventually you will start to feel in control it takes time at the moment you probably have advice coming out your ears but i promise it does get better and this forum is great for asking advice and just venting xxHi there everyone,
I'm quite new on here, been reading for a couple of weeks and finally have got the courage to post.
To cut a long (very traumatic) story short I went to see my gp after experiencing extreme thirst, lots of weeing, and blurry vision. He pretty much immediately diagnosed me as type 2. Had high bg levels (14) so started on metformin
2 weeks later I find myself extremely Ill. Rushed to hospital. Very nearly died, spent 3 days in ICU in DKA.
Since been diagnosed as type 1. Am now on novorapid 3 times a day. Lantus overnight. Plus metformin.
It's been really stressful but I'm trying to be positive and learn all I can about this. Feel like my whole life has changed overnight.. the gp tells me diagnosis at the age of 42 of type 1 is very rare.
Any words of advise would be welcome. I'm feeling completely overwhelmed. And live in fear of DKA again.
That's what I thought. But it was a consultant who said it!!Whoever said that needs to be shot.....DKA would have had you.....
Hope you are finding this site useful. Dont forget no question is daft/stupid. We will try our best to help out wherever we can
That's what I thought. But it was a consultant who said it!!
Anyway, am writing all my questions down, will post later
This site is bloody amazing !!
I've added myself to some groups on Facebook. Big mistake. I think they're mainly American. Full of doom and gloom and horror stories. Going to delete myself off them and stick to here !!
