New Kaleido pump

Hi There, I have just received an email about a new pump that's coming onto the market (I think its currently in trial) but has been released in the UK and Netherlands and wondered if anyone has heard anything about it yet? It looks pretty cool, but details are little vague. It seems to show mmol/l on the screen, but there is no mention of CGM. Would be interested to know if anyone has any feedback. I've seen details of it - it's an almost patch pump. Healthline ran an article: http://www.healthline.com/diabetesmine/kaleido-color-pump#4

There's no CE mark on it yet, which means it doesn't yet have EMA approval. Personally, after my experience at Glastonbury, I'm not entirely convinced by rechargeable pumps. In September 2015 they were working on a bolus wizard and it doesn't come with an integrated glucose monitor or CGM.

Looks great and very much like the Omnipod Pump, the PDM for the Omnipod is quite bulky in comparison to that of the Keleido Pump, will be watching with interest Paul
 
Thanks @tim2000s for the blog link, it was very interesting. I think the lack of cgm and the fact they suggest you connect a different pump for the duration of charging would be a show stopper for me! Howerver, thanks all for the feedback.

You get 2 pumps which both have a 5 day battery life, but every 3 days you swap over to the other pump because the set needs changing.

In my head that means I automatically have a spare pump that I can use in a pinch for 5 days. I guess you could say the same thing about the Omnipod, but there's something about throwing away a pump every 3 days that seems wasteful to me.
 
@CapnGrumpy omnipod have a recycling scheme - you send the used pods back to them to breakdown and recycle. And getting rid of the pod isn't throwing the pump away, bit more like throwing away the infusion set - it is still a bit more than that, but possibly a more correct way to think about it?

Yeah ok, I just don't like being thought of as wasteful, I am by nature very frugal

The Pods are recycled, they get sent through the Post Office to an address in this country and then they are shipped abroad to be broken down, you get the recycling boxes from the pump clinic and each box can hold up to approx 80 used Pods.
 
@catapillar @noblehead Thanks for your post. But i'm wondering how work the recycling scheme of the pods? Do you have the adress to send? Otherwise do the Post Office refuse the recycling boxes?

When you receive a box of pods, it comes with a flat pack pre addressed postage paid for box. When you take pods off you stick them in a bag in the box until it's full, about 3 months worth, then you seal it all up and take it to the post office. The postage is pre paid so not sure why pos office would refuse to take it, I've never had a problem.

The recycling scheme isn't anything exciting or complicated and it isn't a bother to comply with it at all (except when I find a used pod at the bottom of my handbag that I've meant to stick in the box and wonder where on earth that appeared from).

@catapillar has explained all above.

The Post Office have never refused to accept the box, occasionally the counter clerk will ask what's inside for their own records but apart from that it's a problem-free procedure.
 
I like the sound of this. I've always liked the idea of the omnipod but since it comes pre-filled you can't use with other insulins. This one sounds like you can do this. I didn't understand whether it had a remote control or not. I would like a pump with that. However, what I would really love is an artificial pancreas and given the lack of cgm capacity on this it doesn't sound like it would be possible to develop further.
 
Omnipod, pre-filled? My son is on the Omnipod and you can use whatever fast acting insulin you want as far as I know as you have to inject the insulin into the Omnipod.
 

The monopod doesn't come pre filled. You fill each pod with whatever insulin you choose.
 
That's really useful to know. When did that happen? I was told when I got a pump that it came pre-filled and so you could only use with whatever was in it which I think was novorapid or humolog (can't remember which)
