Hi all.
I've jumped in and out of this forum each time I've received a diabetes UK email newsletter, so figured it was about time I actually made an account and joined in.
So, where do I start?
Well, I'm 31 and work in IT support.
I've been diabetic - Type 1 - for about 8 years or so now.
It wasn't until about 4 years into the condition that I found out there are quite a few people on my father's side of the family that are diabetic, which helped put my mind at ease a little, knowing where it had come from.
I initially started out with diet control - although the diet I was put on was terrible and my diabetic nurse actually called my doctor and told him off and said he's an idiot for telling people to follow it
I was then put on Metformin and had a couple of smelly months before I was put on to insulin.
I will admit I've had some difficult times with the condition, mainly due to the poor care and support I was initially given from my previous doctors surgery, but also partly due to my lack of will power and common sense.
Last year I started following the DAFNE treatment regime and things have never been better and I feel so much better about the condition and myself.
Diabetes no longer controls me - I control the diabetes, and I get to eat what I want (within reason, of course).
I'm looking forward to have a good read through the boards here and hope to be able to contribute to any discussions and get to know you all.
