I joined up to comment on Jardiance, (which has benefited me),
I have a condition called idiopathic hypersomnolence, (translated from medical talk this means "I don't know why you sleep too much.")
It is classified as a type of narcolepsy, but it's not really.
Research in the US, (Professor David Rye at Emory University), has concluded that IH sufferers are producing a substance within their central nervous system which is similar to Benzodiazepines, (Valium, Rohypnol, Nitrazepam, etc.) In short, I am 'roofying' myself 24/7.
Rather than falling into sleep in an uncontrolled fashion, (narcolepsy), I am able to choose when I sleep. But I need to sleep a great deal.
I'm prescribed central nervous system stimulants which are not technically for my condition, so are prescribed 'off licence'. There are no licenced drugs specifically for IH. It has an incidence of 1:118,000 so pharmaceutical companies aren't interested in investigating and developing meds for such low sales. If I use my CNS stimulants daily, they become less effective over time. Taking regular medication breaks helps.
If I sleep solidly for 2 or 3 days, I can get loaded on my CNS stimulants and have a productive day.
I discovered that using caffeine on top of my stimulants 'turbocharged' the effect.
And so I started buying slabs of energy drinks.
To enjoy a productive day, I would use 150% of the maximum dose of my CNS stimulants and turbocharge them with 6 tins of Red Bull, (little thinking of the glucose load).
I did this for several years and killed my pancreas.
Also, unknown to me at the time, I had developed malignant hypertension and was walking around with blood pressure that was twice the normal value at the higher and lower levels, I was lucky not to have stroked.
Anyway:
On Metformin & Jardiance, the pie-a-betes is nearly in remission (?)
My BP is near normal on much reduced stimulants.
After 3 months on Jardiance I have lost 1¼ stone.
I feel healthier and fitter.
My winkie hasn't turned black and dropped off.
I feel optimistic!
