M Msbehave Newbie Mar 16, 2020 #1 Hi I’m a type2 diabetic.. on a low carb diet 98% of the time. Using a freestyle libre glucose monitor & fingerpick testing. I started 500mg metformin on Friday evening. My glucose levels are higher at night and in the morning since starting it. Even just eating eggs & bacon I’m getting a spike on the Libre, my glucose levels are not coming down as far as normal.. Morning glucose is 7-8 mmol by 10am I’m usually a 5.5 Now morning is 8-9 and I’m still up at 7 at 10am .. Sunday I didn’t get down to 5.5 until 3pm .. I’ve checked these readings against fingerpick tests too. So just wondering if metformin in the 1st few days/ week can cause the body to pump out extra glucose, causing an increase in glucose levels?
