I was hospitalised late July for three days as ended up in A and E following a routine blood test which showed very high blood sugar levels. I was shocked as only symptom I had was dry mouth and very thirsty - but only for 2 weeks prior. I have no family history that I know of and I’m 76. Anti body test has just come back confirming what was suspected - I’m type 1. I’ve been on insulin now for 5 weeks so it’s a completely new regime for me and one I really was never expecting.
 
Welcome to the forums EssexGal. There's quite a learning curve to Type 1 and insulin use and this is a great place to reach out. 99% of what I know about diabetes I learned here.
 
@EssexGal welcome to the forum, great to have you on board. A quick question, were you diagnosed T2 prior or is this a totally new diagnosis? A few years back when I was living in Quebec I worked with two women in their 60’s. They were a couple of down to earth French ladies, and quite by chance their mothers were both diagnosed with type 1 right out of the blue. They were both in their late 80’s early 90’s. And yet they say the cut off for late onset type 1 is 70. It just proves you can get Type 1 at any age.
 
Yes - it’s completely new diagnosis - no type 2 prior. I’m still feeling in shock tbh as my symptoms were so minimal - just the dry mouth and thirst for about 2 weeks beforehand. We were abroad the week before my diagnosis - walking loads every day but I wasn’t feeling fatigued .
 
I bet you were shocked. Putting a positive spin on it at least you know now and can now be properly medicated. Any questions just ask. We have T1 and LADA forums with so many very knowledgeable people. Don‘t hesitate to check those forums out and ask questions.
