Hullo

I am a self-confessed long time lurker of the forums so decided to register and say hullo!

I'm a twenty-three year old type one diabetic (diagnosed as at September 1999) on injections, not pump.
I've recently moved and my new doctor is suggesting an insulin pump (of which I know absolutely nothing!) so thought I'd see if you guys have any ideas?

My Hba1c is about 8.7 at the moment I think (and has been steadily dropping from 14+ over the last 2 1/2 years) - I recently got the Accu-chek Aviva expert which is helping bring my normally high sugars (of at least 20) down to under 20, usually under 9.0

Oh! I'm also a druid! Bit random but I thought I'd throw that in there!

I look forward to chatting with you all on the forum.

Much love,
Melanie

Welcome to the forum Melanie

Welcome Melanie

Daisy will be along soon to give you the 'New members' welcome. Pop along to the Type 1 forum and the Insulin Pump forum, I'm sure you'll get lots of help with your questions there.

Ann

Welcome and hello druid Melanie. I have been using the ACCU-CHEK monitoring sysyem for nearly 2 weeks now as I have had a lot of worry and stress since January and now a stomach problem and that caused very erratic BS. Its to help me from over correcting and stopping very low hypo's, with no hypo warnings until it was TOO low. No talk of a pump though from the DSN. Take care and best wishes

Hi Melanie and welcome to the forum
There is an insulin pump forum here so you will get plenty of help there as Ann suggested. In the meantime, here is some information we give to new members which you might find helpful. Ask all the questions you want as there is always someone who can help.

Re: New to forum

Hi I'm Gill,
I'm 14 years old, live in Blackburn and have had type 1 diabetes for 18 months. I'm currently on 4 insulin injections a day and am handling everything okay (I think). I have 3 friends at school who also have diabetes so I don't feel alone. I've only just found this forum so I thought I'd join up.
Btw do any of you have advice about going abroad with school. We are going from Liverpool airport and last time I flew from there they searched my bag despite me telling them I'm diabetic and showing them a letter from my doctor. Is there anything I can do to prevent this because its really embarrassing? I'd appreciate any advice you have.
Thank you xx

Hi Melanie

Gill, the "security" at John Lenon are the worst I have even encountered ANYWHERE (and I did 56 flights last year!)

Try and fly from Manchester if you can, you'll find the security people much more pleasant.

Hi
Thanks for replying so quickly. As to your suggestion,I would fly from Manchester if I could but as its a school trip the teachers have chosen the cheapest option and so we are going from Liverpool. the trips in two weeks so its a bit late to change any way.
Gill xx
