Hi, I was diagnosed with T2DM in March. I've been looking at this site regularly but hadn't plucked up the courage to join.
My diabetes may have been triggered by the steroids I've been taking for 17 months due to rheumatoid arthritis - although I do have a family history of it - and had gestational diabetes (18 years ago).
I've yet to get my blood sugars under control- I'm sure that my meds and pain don't help. However, I'm currently on holiday in Crete and my blood sugars are getting high all the time - whether I've eaten or not. It's making me feel awful - blurred vision, fatigue etc.
can you tell me if the heat can affect blood sugars?
I'm trying to drink plenty of water in the hope of bringing levels down - but it's not working. I had a reading of 20.4 yesterday - about 5 hours after eating - and 19.8 today.
Any advice would be appreciated.

hello lou and well done of plucking courage to post here the advice is usually the best . is there any chance you could briefy give a typical days food intake atall ? x

Hi Cath99. I'm really sorry - I managed to post this a few times due to the hotel wifi.
I've been trying to limit my carbs - and definitely no sweet stuff.

You also need to look at what you drink. Carbs are everywhere!
Are you over weight and can you exercise?

We would need a typical menu for a day or two to give a bit of advice.

I am a little overweight (I'm a size 12) - but this is due to a combination of rheumatoid arthritis, steroids and no longer being able to go to the gym. I do walk as much as I can though. Some days this is not far, but other can be up to 8 miles - but this causes a lot of pain and can result in a flare - knocking me out for a couple of days.

I drink water, black coffee, and sometimes diet coke.

Breakfast is a slice of wholemeal toast with egg or cheese. Used to eat porridge but it no longer agrees with me.
Lunch - a small salad.
Dinner - Greek salad.
I'm a vegetarian. I'm also quite fussy with my food - mostly due to medications that I take which alter my tastes.
