Hello, as I'v stated I'm new to this site and not sure of my way around, in fact not sure if I am doing this right.

I have had Diabetes since 1999 and using insulin for the last 8 years. I'v been reading Jenny Rhul's book about all the things your not told about diabetes and now makes sense regarding my difficulties with the condition. Anyway, I am attempting to pursue a low carb diet, and only at the beginning of understanding what I need to do in order to bring my blood sugars down and I think the fact that I use insulin makes it all very tricky.

One of my main reasons for joining this forum is in the hope that I might find some supporting folk that may be able to offer some wisdom of similar difficulties.

As I say I hope I am doing this right

Cuillie x :? OH what is a BB code?

Hi Cullie, and welcome to the forum. Someone much more experienced than me will be along in a moment with loads of good info for you very shortly.

BB stands for Bulletin Board... don't worry about it. It's just a techy thing

Hello tree-peony, Thank you for responding to me, yes I'm not all that techy so there are lots I don't know about the workings of these sites. I don't even know how to get a smilie on here.

I'm interested in the low carb diet, so I am hoping that I will find some support here.

Hi Kate

Welcome to the forum,

I've been on here getting on 6 months and didnt know bb was bulletin board, hey ho never mind lol

I'm not on insulin but the way I understand it is this : if you reduce your carb intake it reduces the need for medicating. this, i realise is very simplistic but true. If you reduce your carbs you will have to look at how much Insulin you are having to avoid potential low sugars.

The key is to test, test and test again.

Keep us posted

Hi Mary and thank you for yor response. Yes I agree with you testing is the key to all of this change for me at the moment and I have already reduced my insulin by a couple of units. It's pretty scarey though, I don't take hypos, when I say this i mean I don't have hypo symptoms although sometimes my readings can be in the 3s, too low really. However I am at the start of this new eating plan, only a week in and so far I'v not had any major upsets.

What I need to look at are some low carb receipes in order to give me some variety in my diet or boredom might set in and scupper me.

It looks as if I am going to have to acquire tates for food I'v never liked before, like fish without the batter  Oh well it must be done.

Thany you again Mary and good luck with your regime Kate x

Hi Rich

I'm a bit concerned your post might get "lost" being here. To do a whole new post for your own intro, go to the top of the page here and underneath "Greetings and Introductions" you will see it says New Topics.
Press that button and away you go, you just need to think of a title (which you already have done!) and then write what you want.

Good to meet you.
