I"ve been diagnosed with diabetes today, my blood sugar levels are 20.8 and I have been given metformin tablets to start tomorrow. I would be grateful if anyone can give me any info as I am really in the dark, thanks.

this the advice that the forum moderators usually give to people newly diagnosed

Welcome to the Forum. I expect you are still suffering for shock !

The Metformin will start helping to bring down your blood sugar levels but you also need to think about your diet as well.

Here is the basic advise Ken and I give to new Diabetics, hope it helps.

Just ask us questions if you are not sure, someone will be able to help you.

Metformin is OK but how effective is it really?
It has been bugging me still. I keep reading it only lowers your sugars by a few points at most.
What might you expect it to do for such a dose on a BG over 20 for ex? 15 at most?
Diet and exercise as well as pills I think are the best course. But not sure about NHS advice on diet... 8)
