Hi, my name is Jennie and I’m a 60 female from Warwick UK. I work full time {shift work} at a psychiatric hospital and was diagnosed with type 2 as well as high blood pressure and cholesterol in January 2016 and am totally confused by it all ~ even ended up in tears after getting totally different info from the 2nd diabetic nurse I visited, so much so that I’m sabotaging my own diet!
Having found this site and reading at last has certainly made me see that I’m not alone in this and so I’m downloading menus and have ordered my blood measuring kit so I can start seeing what my levels are, nice to be here and am reading as much as I can now, thanks for having me!

Sounds like you're taking the right steps, - anything confusing you, then just ask.
 
Good morning Jennie, welcome to the forum, you've come to the right place, lots of good information here and lots of good people. You will get into the swing of things, don't get too stressed. You'll find what works for you. The only advice I will offer you is, drink plenty of water, cut out or reduce your sugar intake and reduce your carbs, (bread, pasta, rice, cakes & biscuits) and increase your walking (if possible). Others on here will give you better or more detailed advice, I'm only new myself, I was diagnosed in Nov 2015.
 
Thanks both, I attend Slimming World and had lost 9lbs last month and first nurse said that with usual modifications that was fine but now see that the carbs need to be reduced tho I already only ever have anything that is white in it's brown form ~ just need to start the dreaded 'e' word!
 

I always suggest to people that they keep a food diary (at least for the first couple of weeks) so that they can assess their carb intake against the UK rcommended guideline of 250-260g per day. I am currently down at around 120g but of course I use insulin. A few T2's on the forum eat less than 50g per day but you have to decide what's right for you and your lifestyle.
 
Hi, I'm also from Warwick, if you don't mind me asking which doctors do you use?
 
Priory also, I've found them fairly good, but they could do more with regards information supplied, they originally suggested I'd be sent on a course at the Hospital to help me understand Diabetes, it didn't happened. My friend who's had diabetes for a number years has been more help.
 
The first nurse I saw was great but the second one just totally confused me and really gave me the scientific scare talk! I was also offered the Desmond course but it is booked up for at least another 6 months.
