Hi Everyone, I have just been diagnosed type 1 diabetes, found out after i was taken to hospital last monday after a car crash. It all seems a bit daunting and a lot to take onboard. I have a question tho, What do you do with your used needles when aboard? i do have a needle diposal bin but its quite large, just wondering if there was any other solution? as i only have one needle diposal bin which will have some needles in it, just seems a bit weird to take that aboard? Thanks in advance for any replies. Matt

Matt,
I use an old test strip box for my lancets, and transfer them to the yellow sharps box periodically. Did same with needles when I was on Insulin

Hi Matt and welcome to the forum I can't answer your question about needles as I am a non-injecting Type 2, but I'm sure a Type 1 will be able to answer you soon. Since you are newly diagnosed, you might find this information useful. Ask as many questions as you need to as there is always someone here to help.

hi Matt

Soft drink bottles work well. That is what I use to dispose of all my needles as our Council requirement is that they go into a screw top plastic container.

You also find sharps boxes in most public toilets in Australia. Really annoys me that they are in the toilets.
