newbie type 2 on insulin

Thank you...you too

I too suffer from respiratory and.lung issues. I am type2. On novomix30 injected at lunch time. I also am on 20mg steroids as maintenance dose daily. I am lucky I am reduced to 8 units injected daily and it is a small amount compared to others. I feel rubbish though. Sugars are good but still feel as if something not right. I am well otherwise at this time.

Is there a time limit to body adjusting to new insulin unit regime?
I am prone to being hyperglicemic, would I be aware if this was during night, I do check bloods before bed as I was informed to be roundabout 10 at bedtime. I ensure this and check bloods before going to bed at approximately midnight. On rising at 5 or 530 bloods are at 5.5 normally. I feel unwell at this level shaking, etc. I feel better at higher 6 or 7s. But this goes on all day. I'm too low (for me) or too high. I have cut back on carbs. I am very vigilant in my food choices but feel I'm not doing something right. Are the steroids the stumbling block I wonder
Be grateful for tips or advice from anyone .

Hello Fred1234, I don't know medical advice but have been on maintenance levels of steroids like yourself for past 4 years. They have caused umpteen other problems but since being diagnosed diabetic in March,I have been told by both my respiratory/lung team and diabetic team that the steroids cause havoc with levels. I have telephone access to diabetic team and if I'm high they increase my background insulin...plus have just added a little insulin to take with meals....when I first started on insulin I was warned it would work quickly but would take a few days for my body to adjust....I'm still at practise stage.......sorry I have no further advice but many people on here may have.
