Newbie using Humalog Mix 50 twice a day

Hello all, I'm new to this forum and I've had a browse around to get my bearings, so to speak! I'm 60 years old and have been Type 1 for the past 17 years. I can't seem to find anyone on here who uses the same insulin as me. From what I can gather, you all seem to be using fast acting and separate long acting (ie 4 x daily injections). I have just two injections daily, morn and eve, before meals. It is a mix50 insulin with both short and long acting components. Is there anyone else out there who is on a similar regime? Or am I an odd bod?!!

Hello I have type 2 and am insulin dependent. I started on Humulin M3 twice a day. But since going on this I have had really bad joint and bone pain. So I have been changed to novomix 30 also twice a day before breakfast and with evening meal. The change has had no improvement on my bones or joints. so you are not alone I hope it works for you. It is much better injecting only twice a day rather than 4 times a day.

High I was diagnosed with type 1.5 in April and have been on Novomix 30 since then (ratio 70/30 Slow to fast acting insulin) twice a day. As you have said there are lots of comments about going on 4 to 5 jabs to day as its not so restrictive in what and when you eat.

To be honest I don't find it to restrictive as I work in an office so have my lunch at set times each time. The two jabs also helps my mind set in controlling what I eat so I'm less likely to eat snacks and other rubbish!

Hello, thanks for your replies - sorry for the delay in replying, I was expecting an email alert if someone responded and didn't get one. Just realised I've got to tick a box to receive an alert  I agree that injecting just twice a day is better - for me anyway. I think I'm unusual in having a 50/50 mix (fast and long acting) but it seems to suit me now.

I had a bit of a wobbly time recently having been diagnosed with COPD as well - I get breathless walking up hills, stairs and doing anything requiring much exertion. I started to have a lot of hypos, going really low and now I realise that it's because I'm using up far more energy trying to breathe, so needed less insulin. It's better now that I realise what was going on - scary at the time. I'm not a natural snacker, tend to have three meals a day and that's it (it's the way I was brought up!). I must be the most boring eater in the world !- it's the only way I can keep my glucose levels steady. Have been on insulin now for 17 years, gets me down sometimes. Don't you just wish you could have just one day - one day - when you can forget you have diabetes and eat what you like when you like. Ah well .... I can dream ...
