Hello to everyone on here I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes one week ago. I first had a pain in my shoulder and arm some six weeks ago I was sent to the hospital and after xrays mri scan blood test nerve conduction test I was told I had damaged nerves in my shoulder due to the onset of diabetes. The pain has gone now but I have restricted movement in my arm the doctor said it will take a year or more to return. thats the history. My doctor told me to control my diabetes with diet and made an appointment with the diabetes nurse for the 28th of march. I have started my diet a week ago just getting advice from the internet on forums like this. I do not know what my blood levels were before I started my diet but 2 days ago I bought a monitor and have recorded the results I would welcome comments from anyone about the readings as I have no idea if they are still to high

day 1 (8.2) (11.3) (8.3) (5.8) Average 8.4

day 2 (7.9) (10.9) (9.7) (8.5) Average 9.25

The first reading is fasting in the morning the other 3 are approx 2 hours after food
I am a 67 year old male Thank youi

Hi backoo and welcome to the forum Here is an information document written by the forum monitors for newly diagnosed diabetics which includes advice on diets, testing etc. You will be able to see from this the recommended levels at certain times of the day. As you will see your levels are still on the high side and often fall outside these brackets. Your after breakfast levels seem particularly high so you need to look at what you eat then. If you follow the diet recommendations here you should find your levels will drop and you will start to feel much better.

If you want more detailed help from the members here about your diet, it would be a good idea to write down a typical day's meals and we can help you see how this can be improved. You may be eating too many carbohydrates and we believe that it's very important to reduce these and you will see results rapidly.

Continue reading as much as you can and ask all the questions you want and someone will always answer.

Thank you Daisyi
I will post my last 2 days food tomorrow and see what people think, I have not seen a diabetes /diet nurse yet so I am getting by as best i can
Cheers
