Newcastle and Mediterranean Diet(or life style)

Great article on the Mediterranean diet. Finally, we are getting evidence based advice for people who do not want to survive on 70% fat and 30% protein for whatever reason (preference, kidneys....). And yes, people HAVE the right to believe and eat what they are comfortable with.
I have transitioned from the Newcastle Diet onto a Mediterranean Diet ( perhaps more accurately a lifestyle) and could not be happier. I am 69, been a binge eater all my life (well, till recently), pre-diabetic since 1999, diabetic since 2010. In other words a silly old fool as I had been warned and not acted.
Nonetheless, I am stoked where I am at the moment. My style of eating has been vetted and approved by my GP, dietician/nutritionist, cardiologist and sports physician/physiologist. I was maxed out on metformin, januvia and jardiance - next step being insulin. I now take 500mg metformin ER daily - sure its not ideal, but vastly better where I was six months ago.
So, as the LRB sang "there are many paths to the top of the mountain - the view from the top is just the same". In other words its great.
Its also great that we have choices and find our own paths - based on solid, scientific, evidence based research. I am grateful to Professor Taylor and all the other scientists who have made it this possible.

I entirely agree with you, I've done near enough exactly the same, and the Mediterranean diet seems to tick all the boxes for me as well.
