Hello, my name is Maria. I’m 58 years old diagnosed with type two diabetes in March and put on metformin. Last week admitted to hospital as my ketones were 6.6 and I was diagnosed with diabetic ketone acidosis which is now been resolved. I’m now on insulin. Hello to everyone in this community.
Hello thank you for your reply. I am type one now. It is all new to me inundated with lots of information on insulin waiting for my first diabetic nurses appointment next week. Yes has been very scary. Didn’t realise what was happening in all honesty but so glad that has been resolved. Thank you
Please ask anything you want to know.
Being a newly diagnosed T1 is a steep learning curve, but the more you understand, the better you'll do.
I was diagnosed almost 9 years ago (albeit without the DKA thankfully). Take your time learning and stay curious.
Which sounds contradictory but it really isn't.
You'll be in information overload at the moment, and you do not need to understand anything but the very basics right now. So if it gets too much, go outside, enjoy the weather, accept you won't be nailing this thing right away and give yourself some time off to enjoy life!
In the mean time, read and learn where possible, and try to work out how what you read fits into your unique situation at this point in time.
