Newly diagnosed Type 1

Joe

Nice to virtually meet you and welcome to the club.

I was newly diagnosed last July at 50 years old and as a fit and active guy it was a total shock. 15 months on I have become accustomed to life with Diabetes and whilst I would never choose it is what it is.

You need to ensure you balance your diet well and don’t eat too much ****. I have managed a low carb diet (successfully) and having been advised to increase my carbs, by my health team and gained weight, am back to a reduced carb diet.

I am now picking up my fitness routine again as diabetes will not control me, I will control it.

Be aware of the risks, as there are a few, and live your life. If you are sensible and have a balanced approach and keep yourself active you will most likely be fine

Libre is great, makes life much easier. There's a good book, Sugar Surfing by Stephen Ponder, which covers cgm in detail. Worth a read for how to get the most out of cgm.
