Hi Harry,
I was diagnosed with type 2 last friday, so we are both new
I was kinda expecting it BUT I think even if you feel you are, you really can't be because it always feels like a shock (could be wrong but i'm going with how I feel) There is so much to accept right now, so much to learn, its good that you (and I) have found this place, i think it would be so much harder 'alone'.
As for the moniters, I waited and got mine from the diabetic nurse on weds just gone, i'm having problems with it though as it seems to make it work I have to do a test run with a control solution that DOESN'T come with the kit lol So after a few days of pricking myself with no results, I find this out today and phone the company, who were very helpful and are going to send it out within 2 to 4 working days. I am slightly miffed about it though because now i'm still waiting to test myself and am still in a kind of limbo! The meter itself is a bit fancy but once you read the manual it's not too bad, try and get ALL of the needles and testings strips via a script though because I asked the guy at the pharmacy how much the strips were to buy and he said £28 for 50! Ouchy! It seems that companies have found a way to make money off our illness, give out the machine for nothing but make us pay through the nose for the extras to make it work! Are you going to be making an appt with a diabetic nurse? I didn't really learn much that I didn't already know but it was valuble to get the bs moniter and to be booked in to get my feet sorted.
All i'm doing at the moment is trying to stick to below 80g of carbs a day, until I know what I can and can't eat, which is much better than I used to be, I used to LIVE on carbs!
Welcome my fellow newbie!
Becca
