Hi

I was recently diagnosed as Type 2 in early November when I was sent to hospital with BS levels in the mid 20s Since then I have been on a low carb diet and taking two 40 mg Glyclazide tablets a day. My levels are now on average around 4.7-5 each day. Currently I am awaiting an appointment with my surgeries Diabetic Nurse but they have suggested they will put me on Metformin.

I am always reluctant to just change tablets and I have been ok on the Glyclazide so the question I would ask 'Is there any particular reason to change to Metformin'?

Thanks

Steve

Hello Dibbins,
Welcome to the forum.
Sorry to say I am not an expert as I am fairly recently diagnosed too.
However, Metformin is the medication of first choice, so it seems to me, for T2 diabetics.
I was given Glyclazide to take in the mornings as my levels were really high - but this was to take alongside the Metformin.
I am sure people with more experience and knowledge will be along soon to give more advice, but it's good to talk to you!
Take care,
Bee Gee
