No kidney stones!

That's pretty unusual. Most UTI's are pretty sensitive to the commonly used antibiotics like Cipro or Septra which I'm sure you're already taken. They usually want a culture/sensitivity of the offending organism from a urine sample taken OFF of antibiotics or course. Seeing as how antibiotics haven't seemed to help you for over a month maybe your doctor should consider taking you off them and starting over, seeing as how a stone has been ruled out.

No IV antibiotics with my 3-month kidney infection last year - but it was 'third time lucky' when it came to the right antibiotic. My bug was resistant to the first two they tried, which is how I ended up so poorly as it was therefore not being treated, as such - thankfully after that 2 x 7-day courses of nitrofurantoin did the trick for a bit, with a further 7-day course about a month later when it came back.

The drip, although sounding dramatic, might just be the thing that finally gets rid of the bug - if it were me, and if that is what they're recommending as the next course of action, I'd bite their arm off....!

They usually check the renal pelvis, ureters, and bladder.

They didnt for me. They didnt even check my other kidney and ureter to see if that one had stones too. I asked why, and they said that just the right side kidney and ureter scan had been ordered, so they couldnt do anywhere else.

What kind of scan was it? An ultrasound didn't spot my kidney stone, but a CT scan did. Big ****** it was too. Get well soon

The vast majority of kidney/bladder stones are calcium oxalate crystals which show up great on a plain X-ray of the abdomen/pelvis. I don't think ultrasound is a great way to detect them. CT probably would. Ultrasound detects gallbladder stones but those are cholesterol not calcium.
