I wish I could remember who it was that asked for information about availablity of a pump for a child, in Reading
Still I did find out something. The Royal Berkshire Hospitals trust and the West Berks PCT, operate strictly on "Bean Counting" There used to be a couple of pump patiente, but their pumps were funded by charity. there isn't even a pump clinic in the area. Not one in the Royal County.
In fact, for one of the most prosperous parts of Britain, the diabetes servic is abysmal. From Strip rationing to pump or trainig courses. If it costs, they won't fund it. NICE guidelines mean nothing.

I bet your roads are full of potholes and you have one of the highest poll taxes in the country . . .

I think that someone has been missleading you http://www.royalberkshire.nhs.uk/wards_ ... me=Patient this is what I found when I googled..

If this has changed and they no longer provide this clinic then you can request to refered to a hospital that has a insulin pump clinic or provision of pumps... If your own PCT doesn't provide this service, then you can go outside your PCT to another where they do..

It will still be the responciablity of your PCT to fund the insulin pump and it's supplies, but if a consultant says that a insulin pump is viable, then your PCT must obide by the NICE guidelines...

I suggest that you do some research to locate a consultant/clinic and get a ferral there, if you feel strongly that a insulin pump is the way forward for you...
