We had a neighbour that wore clogs that were made out of some non sustainable stuff, no laces needed but they were deep and wide fitting.Sandals & "flip flops" are cunningly engineered so as not to need laces.

He had a big beer gut, and managed to get them on by standing up and wiggle his feet into them.

When I lived in the UK pre 1970, I used to buy casual shoes (no laces , elastic sides) from the main shoe shop of the time, Dolcis if I remember rightly although I think they went down the gurgler.Then i would agree that normal shoes need laces, not threads..

The shoes were smart and easy to slip on an off, the soles lasted a long time as well and under £10.00 a pair.
I never looked for shoes when I was last in the UK 1986, but did buy a couple of nice sweaters from M & S.I remember Dolcis..!
Just Googled them & they still trade online.. First thing i found was a slip on trainer.. Just over 18 quid.

I mainly wear RM Williams and Blundstone dress boots, they come in various widths, but I do not think they would be in the op's price range.
