nosebleeds.....

I think you should take him to see the GP. Even if some people have had nosebleeds with diabetes it doesn't mean to say that's the case for him.

I'd be interested in what you find out. I used to get regular heavy nose bleeds (usually in the shower???) and never did get to the bottom of it. They did eventually stop, and I've never thought about it since this thread...

Hi, my son used to get quite a few nosebleeds although this was before diagnosis. We were told that they are never an issue unless the child has a headache at the same time, or there is other bleeding ( from the mouth) along with swelling and / or bruising.

Best to get these things checked though.

My 11 year old non-diabetic son gets nosebleeds and has done for the last few years. It usually starts this time of year (he had his first nosebleed two days ago) and is as a result of hayfever. No sneezing yet but the nosebleed is the early signal that his hayfever season is starting. Once he's on hayfever tabs the nosebleeds stop or get far and few between. Not saying your son's problem is as a result of hayfever so best to get it checked out incase it's something else. But thought I'd mention it as it may not be diabetes related at all.

No harm in getting the boy looked at by his gp, but not heard of diabetes causing nosebleeds but that's not to say it doesn't. My youngest suffered nosebleeds when he was younger and the doctor said it was nothing to worry about as the nose contains delicate blood vessels that are easy ruptured, as I say take him along to see his gp and discuss.

I think hyperglycemia can cause a slowing in healing process so it may be that your son has caused some damage in his nose somehow and the problem-area is slower than usual at healing. That's the only way, in my experience, in how you could relate diabetes to a nose bleed.

Ive had nose bleeds ever since I was young,3 or 4 yrs, then had my nose broken when I was about 15,This didnt help matters,
When I was in my 20,s I had the inside quarterised with a silver nitrate stick and the same again in my late 30,s none of the repairs worked and the bleeds kept happening, vehicle aircon made them worse (dry air envioments)as did dusty air, I was diagnosed T1 , or treated as T1 in november last year, at the same time, Imentioned to my doctor about nose bleeds and she sent me off to ENT dept at local hospital ,
They had a look and a scan and have just operated on me to correct a deviated sceptum, which they say was the cause of my nose bleeds,
Can I suggest you go to your gp and ask for an appointment at your local ear nose and throat(ENT) for a check up and scan, Ive waited 40 years for this to happen and now have the most wonderful doctor I could ask for, from seeing my gp to operation , 3 months!! very impressed
