Hi it's my first post so please excuse me if this sounds daft but I can't remember if I've taken my Lantus insulin tonight. I just need some advice on what I should do please? Thanks in advance.
Have been in the same boat, got a NovoPen Echo now which tells me how many units I took and how long a go I took them. As for your dilemma, if it were me I would monitor BGs for the next couple of hours. If much higher than normal I would take the normal shot and continue to monitor every hour until the morning. Have fast acting carbs at the ready in case you have double dosed. Do you take your Lantus every 24 or 12 hours?
Thanks for your reply Glen, I take it every 24 hours. My sugar level doesn't seem any higher than normal but I am keeping an eye on it. I normally take my insulin at 6pm so if I use it now I'm going to have two doses overlapping so have decided not to take any and hope that my level is ok tomorrow.
It is much better to have a temporary high BG levels compare to a dangerous drop. I agree that monitoring your BG is wise but if still unsure then don't take ur insulin. D
If you're in this situation and need to go to sleep, I advise setting an alarm for around 3 hours later just in case. By that time you should be able to see your sugars starting to go off track if you HAVE forgotten your insulin. Better than waking up in the morning with a sugar of 26.
I was told to monitor overnight and if I saw an unusual rise in BG to take half my dose in the morning (I take my background at night too) then continue on as normal with the full dose that evening
Thank you all for your advice, Dazza I did as you said and have continued to monitor my levels. I am pretty certain I didn't take it but I feel OK and levels are good but if I hadn't had all of your advice I would have worried all night so thanks again.
