Hi, I was told on Friday that I was now diabetic during a telephone consultation with my GP. My problem is that I’m unsure on how serious, if at all, is my condition. I had a fasting blood glucose test in September last year and two in the last two weeks and the results were 6.9, 7.3, and 9.0 after fasting for 12 hours.

My problem is that I have had to travel overseas for work and I am not back until September, my GP did not seem concerned about this and told me to book an appointment with the diabetic nurse on my return. I have bought a book to try and help me understand Diabetes a bit (Diabetes for Dummies) and I have read some information on NetDoctor and other web sites. But I have found that there is conflicting information, NetDoctor says you have to be over 7.7 to be diagnosed with Diabetes but my book states that 7.0 is the number. I have also bought a blood tester and my readings two hours after eating are between 13 and 17. What should I be doing now? What should I avoid?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi isitme and welcome to the forum
During your time abroad you can help yourself by following the advice contained in this information written for new members, especially on diet. The results you have will mean different things according to the type of test you had. Do you know what test you had ?
