NOT told of bordeline diabetes

Hi all,

I have been advised to see a lawyer as I have been told I have a case for medical neglect since being told I am diabetic type 2 recently by A&E . When I went to my doctor 4 days later she asked me if I had ever had a sugar test before, I said I thought not as no one had ever mentioned diabetes to me before, after looking back on my notes she informed me I was sugar tested in 2005 with routine bloods that were taken at the time and was borderline diabetic then, yet no one has ever told me that. I was told at the time that my results were all normal. I would have got the wake up call and would have changed my eating and drinking habits way back then if I had ever been told .
Has anyone else ever had such a thing happen and gone to a lawyer with a claim for neglect?
I feel so let down by the doctor and feel I would not be diabetic now if I had been properly informed.

Hi Denise, sorry to rain on your parade but on the whole, cases brought against the medical fraternity are non starters . I understand your anger, I also felt let down when poor dietry advice took me from Pre D to Diabetes but quite honestly , there is little to be gained by thinking of lawyers, far better to concentrate on getting yourself as healthy as possible and putting it down to a bad experience .

Thank you for your reply.
It is so unfair to be kept in the dark by GP's when you put your faith in them.
I will never trust another doctor as long as I live after this , I will be asking for a second opinion on the slightest thing from now on .

Hi Brekky,

It is all about compromise.
If I was you I would direct all my anger and frustration into controlling your diabetes. Think of it as revenge. You may be a diabetic but you are also going to be a well controlled one. This may surprise your Dr. when you go for check ups and being diabetic does not mean that your life has to change. You can still enjoy all aspects and the diet you choose will become part of it. You will be healthier and happier. It is a win win situation.

Catherine.
