Not wishing to blow my own trumpet...

Just back from seeing the Practice Nurse (Diabetes Nurse left just before New Year and obviously hasn't been replaced).
HbA1c now 5.4/36 down from 8.6/70 on diagnosis. Quite pleased with myself. Weight down 20 kilos. Nurse was fairly amazed at my results after 3 1/2 months but wasn't really interested in how I had done it which I found a little strange and after about 10 seconds bloody annoying. We ended up having a bit of a spat about carbs being an essential part of everyone's diet and what should have been a nice afternoon turned into me fuming all the way home.
I have seen this nurse before and think we have very different personalities but it was just the complete lack of interest in what I had been doing really p**sed me off. Also I guess I was looking for more of a pat on the back which I didn't get either.
Anyway maybe should have posted this is the soapbox section but I think I am right in putting it here.

I would also like to say that this result is completely down to you lot educating me in how to control my sugars and without you I'd probably still be sitting on the loo after taking another metformin..

You have just achieved something wonderful, and the NHS in all its close mindedness is incapable of recognising it!

Enjoy that sense of triumph.
 
Thanks for those kind words.. now feel much better.. will go and prune something in the garden while the sun is still shining .. will pretend it's her head!
 
Brilliant work mate. Just ignore the NHS stuff, not worth worrying about. My GP knows I ignore him, but I'm off BP meds as well, no thanks to him.
 
Don't worry the bad situation was her fault, not yours. It's like talking to a brick wall most of the time. I imagine when we used to live in caves, the first thing we would do every morning was to pop down to the nearest coffee shop for a chocomochalattefrappe and a pain au raisin, just to fill up on carbs; or, maybe we just banged something on the head and ate it. Who knows?
 
Really well done you...that's a real achievement.

Sadly this seems to happen a lot...in my experience they're quick to give you a hard time if your Hba1c is too high and even quicker to give you a hard time when it's low...while insisting that you need more carbs...after being drawn into several spats over the years I now find it best just to smile through gritted teeth...they know nothing about the blood sweat and tears that go into achieving these good results...only you and the rest of us here do...so give yourself a really good pat on the back...you deserve it.
 
I'll add my pat on the back to the others, what you've achieved is HUGE. And as for not listening to you? I'm afraid that's the human condition. It takes a very self-confident and mature person to put all their professional "knowledge" (I.e what they've been taught) to the side and learn from a layperson. Even if that layperson is living proof of what they are teaching. Chin up! You've transformed your health.

@bulkbiker Congratulations! When nursie gets her own diabetes she can eat all the carbs she wants. This is your condition and you are acing the tests despite her advice. Well done
 
Wife says to nurses "Wait till you have had it as long as I have, then you can preach".. She's only had it about 50 years
 
So it's all our fault you fell out with the practise nurse?

Only joking!

Another big well done from me. Recognition of this way of eating is coming slowly. We just have to keep the faith in the meantime.

Well done!!! My mum has just been diagnosed and is getting better info and advice from me than her GP. Hard to convince her though as her generation still have trust in GPs.
 
Great results @bulkbiker! You have earned the right to blow your own trumpet, or even a tuba after achieving this. And it is an encouragement to all of us. Don't stress about the nurse, you know what is working for you.

Probably best to just "Smile and wave boys....smile and wave" when it comes to your HCP's.
I have similar results to you and an appointment with my DN in a week.Last time I saw her was about two weeks after diagnosis and right about the time I started LCHF.I am interested to see her reaction,but regardless I will not be deflected.And neither should you,after all you seem to know more than them
