Novarapid/Lantus considering changing to Tresiba

Hi All,

I have been reacting to Novarapid/Lantus, and in the past to Novamix and Humalog. I have just had my challenge test (a prick thest followed by injecting different insulins), they said I don't have a hyposensitivity reaction to most of the insulins, including the ones above. However, they may need to do more investigations. I looked at my reactions to Tresiba and that seemed to affect me the least. So I am thinking I may ask my nurse if I try Tresiba.

A question I would like to ask, is that has anybody gone from Novarapid and Lantus to Tresiba? If so, has it worked better for you?

Also, can it be administered through the pump?

I really liked the pump but I had bad reactions so I went back to my injections. I was disappointed as it was working besides the reactions.

Tresiba is a great Basal insulin, I was a on it for a few month before I started on the pump.

I was on levemire for many years but started getting balloon like lumps under my skin from it, so then I was put on Lantus but was suffering alot of lows at all times during the day, so then got put on Tresiba which I have to admit was the best Basal I have ever been on but so it should be as it is so expensive compared to most others.

Sorry to hear you have had to come off the pump and I'm not 100% certain but doubt it could be used in a pump as they use fast acting insulins
 


Interesting, I hope they can put me on that. As I get under the skin reactions and some lumps on the surface as well. That happens with Novamix, Humalog, Novarapid and Lantus. If I try Tresiba, which fast acting can go with that? I don't want to try Novarapid again. Thanks!
 
@ausasha, Tresiba can't be used in a insulin pump as its a basal insulin.

I'm going to tag @robert72 as he changed to Tresiba insulin around 12-18 months ago and has had great success with using it.

Hi Ausasha.
I moved from Levemir to tresiba about a year ago. I get a much flatter profile now especially in the morning. I currently use it with novorapid so can't suggest an alternative quick acting insulin but would absolutely recommend Tresiba as a great basal, so worth trying.
 
Hmmm. I'll see what my DN says. If they can suggest another fast acting then I'll be happy. Thank you.
 
As you say see what your DSN says and hope you get your problems with insulin sorted out
 
I have been on Tresiba for about 18 months and find it very flat compared to Lantus. You couldn't use it in a pump though as you can only use fast acting insulins in pumps. If you don't get on with Novorapid or Humalog then maybe try Apidra. And if that's no good, then you could try an animal based insulin. I'll tag @CarbsRok as she uses bovine (animal based) insulin in a pump.

Thanks @robert72 Hi @ausasha Many DSN's and consultants tend to pretend that animal insulin does not exist any more. It does and quite a few people use either pork or beef neutral in their pumps. So make the suggestion that you try either of them.

As you didn't have a reaction when they tested you, are you sure it was nothing to do with the cannula that caused the allergic reaction?
 
Hi. Yeh I will ask. Thing is before the cannula I have been getting lumps and bumps with all 4 insulins. They only did a simple allergy test, apparently there are other investigations they need to carry out to be sure. I need to see what the report says first.

As for the cannula it may be because of that too but right now they're focusing on 1 thing.

I will see if I can try humalog or apidra. I realised the humalog I tried was a mix 25. I think I'll try the tresiba and humalog/apidra.

Ausasha,

I've been using Tresiba for about 6 weeks and it is the best long-term insulin I have ever used. Very level, no ups or downs, no night-time lows. I love it! I used to be on a pump, but I prefer Tresiba for basal control and I use Novalog for bolus doses. I have also used Apidra and it works for me very well for bolus doses. Best of luck!

Thanks for that! I agree, it is working really well. Even when I'm at work I don't take the dose I was asked to as it's too much, however, I take the normal dose when I'm at home.

I found out that I'm allergic to insulin, apart from Tresiba as it works differently, so I'm off Novarapid, unless I have levels over 15. Instead of Novarapid, I'm now on Glicazide, which, is working well. My levels have reduced so much to. It turned out that Tresiba has been a great choice!
