I've only been diagnosed a few weeks with type 2 and am on insulin using the NovoMix FlexPen (pre-mix). My question is I have noticed that there can be some insulin left in the pen but not enough for a full dose. Does this mean I have to discard the pen or can I use whats in the pen and 'top up' from a new pen?
I would discard the pen rather than have to inject twice. You can take the pen to a pharmacy for disposal or just run the remaining insulin down the sink with lots of water.
The cartridge normally has a ring round the top near the needle end, if the rubber stopper is fully inside the ring then discard as there won't be enough room to mix the insulin.
