the insulin in your pen is okay out of the fridge once inserted in the pen for about 4 weeks.
the best bet is to keep testing and if bloods are abnormally high for more than 12-24 hours
then change the cartridge for a new one out of the fridge.

think of your meter as your car speedometer -- you wouldn't drive with out one of those

If your concerned about your in-use insulin getting too warm then you can buy Frio Wallets to keep it cool, they are expensive to purchase but last for years.
