Hi again,
Just got my new numbers from the surgery and they are much improved.
HbA1c down from 7.8 at diagnosis to 6.3.
Total cholesterol down from 8.0 to 6.5.
Even my "one size fits all", "don't self test", "eat carbs" doctor doesn't want to medicate "yet!".
I've followed this forum's advice:
- Self test to discover which foods you can eat without spiking your BG readings
- As expected, carbs are culprits so I've cut them back a lot (to "moderate" level so far)
I've also increased my exercise and reduced my weight (still some way to go on that).
No meds but taking a Benecol drink and 1000mg Omega 3 every morning as per dietician.
Even my BP has rsponded and is closer to normal healthy levels.
To all those who have answered my questions (and do so for others daily, over and over again), you have greatly helped me to understand how to manage my BG and achieve my goal of avoiding medication for as long as possible. I firmly believe I would not be in this position if it wasn't for the forum so keep up the good work. It is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I know there's a long way to go but I believe I'm on the right track for now.
