Some PCT's are changing the goalposts for obesity surgery contrary to NICE guidelines.

I really think that NICE should issue stringent orders as opposed to guidelines as many on here have seen PCT's interpretations on the issue of test strips affecting their management.

It's even worse than that Catherine. A lot of my fellow WLS'ers have had terrible trouble even getting past their own GP!. I was in fact reffered by a locum at our surgery who thought it was unbelievable that they had not reffered me before. Many patients have had waits of four years or more, or have been rejected two or three times by the PCT before finally appealing and getting surgery. It is a sad but real fact that some people are effectively encouraged to put just that extra bit of weight on to hit the new guidelines set by some PCT's. Completely sad state of affairs. Luckily for me with a BMI of 47 and with diabetes I have been reffered but will have to go through a fifteen month or so process before surgery. John.x
