My Doc has said to me that they want levels below 7 but, he was not unduly concerned with my 7.4 the other day as long as I got back down to 6 as I had it a couple of years ago. Your 7+ might just be a glicht, get another blood test in 4 months and see what you get.

Firstly diabetes is'nt what most non diabetics thinks.You have joined the forum at the best time as you are newly diagnosed.There are lots of experianced people on here and you will get everyones support and advice you need .

i have had high blood pressure for more years than i can remember and take meds for i also have arythmia (uncontrolled heart beats) which i am on beta blockers for and recently diagnosed type 2 but hey at 52 years young got away with it for long enough once you're meds start to work you will feel better.
good luck with the jabs i think they just like to jab us for fun :lol:

I had a triple heart bypass 2 years ago, which was bad enough. Then last Friday, I was diagnosed with Diabetes and put on even more pills!!

So, as well as having 8 pills for heart failure a day (including pills for high Cholesterol and Blood Pressure), I now have to have 3 more pills for Diabetes! Lovely! ha ha.

I've been told I have to have a pneumonia jab and also retina screening, as my eyes are very blurry sometimes. I've also been getting really tired all the time. Taken this week off work, but will be going back again next Monday, because I just cannot concentrate on it! Hopefully, the pills will kick in soon and I'll be feeling a bit better. Hope so!

By the way, once you have Type 2 Diabetes, do you have it for life???

Hi Jeannie and welcome to the forum In answer to your question which Bowell has already answered, yes once diagnosed you will always be diabetic but if you get good control you will soon get used to it and start to feel better. You will presumably have diet instructions for your heart condition and you will have to work out how to combine the two diets. You will have to continue following the diet though and test very regularly to see what effect your food is having on your levels. With well controlled levels this could minimise complications you could have later on. This information put together by the forum monitors should help you to get this control:

Poor Claire. Dont feel bad about being sorry for yourself. I had the same shock just over a year ago, The only difference with me was that I was appallingly weary all the time but it was put down to being 73 and having a small heart problem . I was convinced the first tests where a blip because I had just had a nasty kidney infection so was compltely unfazed, What a shock when the doctor phoned the same day to come straight back after the glocose test. I was given a booklet and diet advice but as I am the sort who will always read up on anthing happening to me, I soon felt that the advice given was out of date and have tried to follow a relatively low carb diet. If I eat unwisely I suffer from exhaustion so rarely do that.
Metformin took months to calm down. I felt like a smelly, noisy old vocano for weeks but fine now except I dont suppose I shall ever need laxatives.The doctor I saw was nice enough but all she seemed only interested in getting me onto statins and made out a good case but I have close rellies who have had dreadful problems with them and as my Chol. is normal and BP well regulated I said no thanks but still got nagged by the nurse concerning it.
I was told right from the start that there was no need for me to monitor my blood but am so tempted to get the equipment and do it.
Lately we got a new doctor as our practices amalgamated and I read on the firms blog that he.
specialises in diabetes so have booked an appointment with him for my yearly review, have to wait weeks and will be seen at 8.45 due to the fact that almost everybody wishes to see him
I am grateful for having been disgnosed before things started to go really wrong and joining here was the wisest and most helpful thing I have done so I say thankyou to evreybody on here,
Guess I just have to learn to love my dog since it is for life, might have to think of a name for him
One good thing to come from all this? I have lost a little weight gradually and gone down 2 dress sizes BUT I am a big lady to start with so not getting thin.

Hi Posy and welcome to the forum Read your post and would really recommend that you get yourself some testing equipment and start testing as set out in the following advice written by the forum monitors (link below). Only then can you really start to manage your diabetes. You need to know what effect certain foods have on your levels. If you call manufacturers you will probably get a meter free if you tell them you are going to do a lot of testing each day. They want you to buy their strips. In this advice you will probably find that the diet recommendations are different from what you were already told. This is what we believe in and it has good results. Yes, low/reduced carb is the best way to go so carry on with it. Here is the link for ease of reference although it does appear further back in this thread as well so you may have already seen it:
