By the way, I take lansoprozol for GERD. I feel better for it. Surgeon happy with it. Diabetes specialist ok with it.
I am on lanzaprazole because I take Clopidogrel,so I am aware of the FDA warnings on this class of drugsAll drugs have their draw backs, the risks shouldn't outweigh the benefits but to evaluate those risks is the job of HCPs. It is the decision, ultimately, of the patient whether to stop treatment or not. My only fear is that some sufferers choose to stop without doing an awful lot of research first.
Some years ago I was advised by my gp to stop taking Etoricoxib, actually the truth was that if I insisted on having the drug I would only be prescribed it by a consultant because it had been found to raise the risk of stroke to dangerous levels. I agreed to stop taking the drug and instead take the proffered Naproxen. Now, Naproxen isn't half as good as Etoricoxib (for me) but the risk factors are far lower. I had to have trust in the gp but I did do my own research.
Eta. Because I take Naproxen I have to take Lanzoprazole which is a similar drug to Omeprazole. If not I run the risk of damaging the stomach wall. It really is a balancing act.
My husband used to take Naproxen and needed his iron monitoring as it caused iron deficiency anemia for him. Worth asking for regular blood test? All drugs have their draw backs, the risks shouldn't outweigh the benefits but to evaluate those risks is the job of HCPs. .......And my pharamacist thinks I am a singularly cantankerous b***ard making up stuff that contradicts the BP formulary. I knew I was not alone, but had no evidence. So it was my spreadsheet against the establishment, even though my GP had already agreed to alter the scrip in my favour. She (the pharmacist) still spat feathers. But I pointed out that it was easy for me to do this myself so her protestation would be to no avail. I hope your husband has got this problem sorted now, My ferritin levels recovered after I retimed the PPI. In fact, Lansaprazole is safer in this respect than Omeprazole according to the FDA on ClopidogrelMy husband used to take Naproxen and needed his iron monitoring as it caused iron deficiency anemia for him. Not sure that acupuncture will help with the diarrhoea! My iron supplement had this tendancy, and turned things a dire black too.!Hello
I was diagnosed type 2 in March 2017
I have to take Esomeprazole similar to other drugs like lanzaprazole
I take one at bedtime. I have tried other types but always end up with diarrhoea!!
Seems ok so far.....
I also take paracetamol and codeine phosphate due to chronic pain as I have fibromyalgia syndrome diagnosed 2014
I am taking metformin modified release, but think that's causing similar problems!
I have just started acupuncture treatment, wheat and dairy free diet and low carb
BG readings down from 15 highest, today got 7.7 as lowest so far
Interesting reading about the Dawn phenomena, thanks for the info!
You've just reminded me. I took steriods for a week+ when I was working in nottingham because I suffered a bell's palsy attack. It was feared a stroke but diagnosed with bell's palsy. 25yrs ago now. Less than a decade later I was diagnosed with diabetes but not before being diagnosed with underactive thyroid. A unhealthy time in my life. Clubbing, drinking and working 24/7. I guess my saving grace was no indigestion or gerd then. That only came about in my first pregnancy.I take lansoprazol and have done so for quite a while because I take steroids.
