Omnipod 5 App

My wife and I are going through the process of getting my young son equipped with an insulin pump. We've been manually dosing up to now, and have a Dexcom G6 meter.

We are going to get the Omnipod 5 pump, but notice that it has very strict device requirements for the app. Basically, only *some* Samsung Galaxy phone models are supported. The pod will not work with the Dexcom for closed-loop dosing control without the app.

Does anybody use this pump and app? There isn't a lot of feedback about it online. I'm wondering if it might work on other devices too, aside from Samsungs.

FYI, I'm in the USA.
 
I just started on the Omnipod 5 about a week ago. I received my started kit and it came with a PDM. It's basically a smartphone using an Android system where the Omnipod 5 app is the main interface. So because my Android-based phone is yet to be "compatible", I now carry basically 2 smartphones.

I also have the Dexcom G6. The pods and the CGM seem to work flawlessly together for me. From what I've read in official documentation, the pods and the G6 are supposed to work together even when you PDM/app is out of range. That appears to be the case from what I've experienced so far, though you will need the PDM or phone app to be able to manually bolus. I've been on auto mode since day 1 and I'm definitely happier about it than I was with my Medtronic 770G. Hope this helps some!
 
Thank you for sharing your experience, that eases my concerns significantly! Some of the app reviews seemed to indicate that the buggy.app made the omnipod work no better than any other manually-managed pump system.

I will share my first impresdions with the pump when it comes in. It has been prescribed by our doctor, we are just waiting for the starter kit to arrive at out local pharmacy before we get going.
 
I do not have this pump yet. But I notice the dex is compatible with samsung android phones as advertised. But it also says android version 9 and above. Mone is an A13 that uses android 12
