Holy S*** that is some mental yoga going on there.
Good for you but my 2pence worth is to chill a bit. Not to be as condescending as that sounds, as when I was first diagnosed I was angry, impatient and needed to understand my condition Now. Really this intensity was helping to keep my blood sugar high....all to do with physical stress response and your liver being instructed to pump out glycogen to fight or run from a suspected sabertooth encounter.
But essentially your doing a Sinatra, your condition your way. Respect for that.
Hi @alisonhe ,
The psychological effect medication has for some people is making them to become lazy.
What I want to know is why I've not lost an ounce doing LCHF. I've not cut out carbs completely but I've reduced significantly to a level I can easily live with and nothing. Im getting nice BS readings on the whole but no weight loss.
I disagree. You have chosen not to use medication at this time but that does not mean it is a bad choice for others. There are many reasons why a person might take medication. It does not mean they are lazy, they are just using a particular tool that is available.

Anyone knows where i could get a codefree device apart from online ?
Just online I think
You can ask your pharmacy if they can order it for you. Buuuut you won't get the discount if you bulk buy strips. You have the codes?
I bought strips on Tues from the website and recieved the package on Thursday. I paid for 1st class, an extra 50p otherwise it is free 2nd class post. you can pay using PayPal if you wanted the added online security.
HTH
This is what I copied from another thread:It is not a problem for me to buy online it is a problem for the delivery company to find my house.
If there will be an option when ordering to use royal mail then that would be perfect because they are the only ones who know where my house is .
What do you mean by codes ?
This is what I copied from another thread:
Go to http://www.homehealth-uk.com/medical/blood_glucose_monitor_testing.htm and use these codes for a discount.
5 packs 264086
10 packs 975833
Don't be disheartened! I am on day 12 of the LCHF diet and after a slowish start my BG levels have halved. Good luckAs from yesterday i started to follow the advice on LCHF given in this guide http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/a-new-low-carb-guide-for-beginners.68695/.
My food yesterday only had around 55 grams of carbs in it (100 grams of brown rice, 80 grams of butter beans 50g of sweetcorn, 4 tomatoes) and the rest was dairy, greens and chicken and no fruit at all.
Based on this, my BS levels were in the 8's and 9's.
This morning at 9 i had a salad where the only carb was 40 g of sweetcorn a tomatoe and that is about around 6 carbs
An hour after, i checked the BS levels and it was 12.6 mmol
I have no idea what is going on.
How low do i have to go in carbs intake to be at 6 or bellow 6 mmol?
Or does it take weeks and months for the LCHF diet to work and reduce the sugar levels?
My understanding is that in the UK only diabetics on medication qualify for the exemption.I noticed that you paid £8 for a prescription. I thought as a diabetic, all prescriptions are free, or has this been changed?
When I was told I had to medicate every day for my Thyroid, my Doctor sorted out a Medical Exemption Certificate and she said diabetics are also entitled to free prescriptions. As an OAP, all my prescriptions are free now.
Err, it's not a myth, it does happen, it just didn't happen for you. As referred to somewhere way back in this thread, my husband got from fasting reading of 24 mmol/L to normal in nine days and stayed there. It can happen, but people's metabolisms are different and some will drop quicker than others. Someone has posted on another thread, earlier today, the suggestion that for some people, when sugar levels drop, the "liver dump" phenomena kicks in to retain levels which the body is used to, hence slowing down the drop. One myth which was that within 10 days to 2 weeks of starting the diet you should get normal figures was not accurate in my case.
I should be very careful with this "truth". Another name for it is "carb creep", a gradual falling off the wagon, with the inevitable results and disappointments. What is true though is that after a while on this severe diet your body can start to tolerate again very reasonable amount of carbs , carbs that are on the "NO NO" list(potatoes, rice..etc.) without any severe spikes in BS levels.
My experience is very similar to this. I can tolerate occasional carb meals and even deserts now, 18 months down the track of dietary intervention. I am under no illusions about what would happen if I went back to the SAD permanently thoughHere are some updates.
In august towards the end i started eating very very low carb (under 20g a day sometime only 10 or 12 g) and cut the calories from around 2000 to below 1500-1400 per day sometime less. What is true though is that after a while on this severe diet your body can start to tolerate again very reasonable amount of carbs , carbs that are on the "NO NO" list(potatoes, rice..etc.) without any severe spikes in BS levels.
Same with me - I had a particularly high carb day yesterday and my reading this morning was 5.6 which is the highest I've been for a while as my range is usually between 4.8 and 5.2 so I must not get too complacentMy experience is very similar to this.
