Hi all

What does everyone think of the new one touch verio iQ? Been using the one touch ultrasmart the past 5 years was thinking of getting a new blood monitor.

Also does any1 know any good blood monitoring result diaries?

Cheers

Hi,
Until recently I had been using the Contour USB meter, which has some excellent features (the display is great) but I have now got a Freestyle Insulinx meter. I went on a carb counting course which helped me to get my carb to insulin ratios sorted out and this meter works very well with that. I have reduced my overall insulin requirements by about 20% since doing the course and then a further 10% since using the new meter. I have looked at the Verio, but it doesn't seem to have the ability to calculate the insulin requirements, although it does offer a good idea of trends and patterns of high and low BS levels.
Regarding diaries, I know that Bayer offer them to registered users of their meters, and my local diabetes clinic issue the same ones to their patients. They are quite easy to use and allow for a good few months of tests to be logged. It may be worth asking your meter provider to see if the offer them too. If you are OK with computers, most of the newer meters offer downloadable tests via the free software. I take these to my appointments on a USB stick. My own consultant likes this version, because he can look at the graphs and trends as he wishes. Some diabetes teams allow you to email the test results so that they can advise you without the need for such regular appointments.
