Ophthamology today, shocked and scared


Hi RRB,

Thank you, and I am so sorry to hear that. Just keep in mind that they have to prepare you for worst case scenario. The power of positive thought is a wonderful thing, remember to focus on the good coming from this being detected and things getting down about it. (As someone going through laser for retinopathy, I keep having to remind myself of this too!)

What amazing support you've all shown RRB, and I've no doubt it will continue after she gets the op over and done with.

I'm incredibly impressed by the deep words of encouragement, love and support she's receiving.
I couldn't possibly match them.
(hope that doesn't come across as patronizing in away, I'm just so impressed)

One thing I would say though, RRB, ask yourself with all the strength you have in you.....
"What's the worst that could possibly happen to me? Could I cope with whatever I feel is worst?
If the answer is yes, (you may be surprised at your own answer), then accept it with courage" (you do have courage)
and move forward with the life you have and will continue to have with joy in the near future.

Hi RRB, It is indeed wonderful what the surgeons can do these days. The most wonderful thing is that they will nowadays attempt to do things they wouldn't even ten years ago.

The op you are having is routine now in any hospital with a large opthalmology dept. Of course no op is routine for the individual
and seeing the risk swriten down on the consent form is always chilling.
Even my eye injections carried a 50% risk of blindness.

i really think hearing your story must have helped people alhough they may well be horrified at the thought.

They will have followed you on your journey aand I am sure will rejoice with you when it proves to be successful.

i am sure we both rememberpeople posting on here who were terrified of laser treatment let alone all these other procedures.


I keep saying that while they are still treating you ,you are Ok. I have undergone many procedures over the last six years but have now been told that they can do no more.

I was very depresed about this at first but I have now come to terms wth it and it just makes me more determined than ever to keep my bgs etc under conntrol as this is something I can do for myself.

I haven't given up hope that a new treatment will be developed in time to save my sight as there are various things in the pipeline.
The situationin viz diabetic eye disease surgery is better than it has ever been -and constantly improving.

I always think it is a good and helpful thing to share experience of complications and post about them openly.
It de-mystifies the subject . we all know how potent a fear is fear of the unknown.

I am sorry to hear your story. I have had several eye operations, even a detahed retina and i can assure you it will go well.
But do take i care and do everything they say.
But i wish you well and hope you are well. I'm sure your daughter will be fine whoever you get to look after her.

Thank you all, Tracey I hope you are coping well with your on going eye problems and I am sending you positive thoughts and very good wishes.

To anyone who is worried about eye problems, I can say that getting positive comments from the lovely members on this forum has helped me considerably and has given me strength to keep positive and hopeful. My eye feels like it's a dam ready to burst and I don't know if it will hold out until the 28th, because of the fluid seeping through the hole,but fingers crossed it will.

I too found out yesterday I'm going in to hospital on the 27th for the opp on the 28th up in Aberdeen they are doing cataracts at the same time to save going back wishing you lots of support and a hug as that's all I wanted yesterday & for someone to say I will be okay bit sad for a 41 year old ! Keep telling my self their are others a lot worse off stay focused on getting better x keith .

Best wishes to you too Keith.. Its not sad for a 41yr old its perfecly natural for anyone! I really don't think they attempt any of these eye operations unless they are sure of success or if the situation is desparate,

Its never pleasant to be in that stiuation but i know from experience that absolutely nothing I have ever had done was as bad as I imagined it.beforehand.

I am sure both you and RRB will be back soon telling us of your experiences and helping reassure anyone else who faces eye surgery.

You WILL be fine
 

Hello keith Like you when Mr K told me about the possible operation referral I was in shock a bit and on the bus home I was filling up a bit and thinking I wish I had that special person sitting next to me and giving me alittle hug and telling me that WE will be going through it together with love and support. So it's not sad and you are not sad to think that, it's human nature.
I think when a Gp or specialist says the word operation most people think oh no and worry, because it is after all an operation. But when it comes to the eyes it hits even harder, an appendix or gall bladder taken out ( most, it seems is done by keyhole surgery) we can do without them, but the eye's, well I heard they the windows of the soul, and windows for viewing with and with out these we don't have that other organ to take over or to compensate.

It's trying to be strong, hopeful and positive and I know there have been a lot of other members who have gone through similar problems and worries.

If you or anyone wants to pm me please do, so we can help each other out when times are hard and we are feeling a bit low.

I can't believe we are having our Op's on the same day, but hundreds of miles away.

Try and keep your chin up and we are all here for each other, through the good times and sometimes the not so good.
