Opinions on how many carbs per meal

Hi everybody

I was diagnosed type 2 about 6 months ago and to be honest I am still struggling to get to grips with it. I am on 2 gram of Metformin per day. Physically I am not overweight and I am fairly active.

My question concerns the amount of carbs per meal/day I should be aiming for. I have read statements claiming to restrict your carb intake to around 40g per meal and other which say as high as 100g per meal (the amount of contradictory information is probably the most frustrating thing about diabetes!)

Currently I aim to keep it between 50 and 70 grams per meal, where possible, and in most cases when I have tested I have been below 7.4mmol 1 hour after eating (often below 6). I was testing after 2 hours as well but have stopped that for a bit as it was usually coming in below the 6mmol mark. Now I only test after 2 hours if the 1 hour figure is high. At the moment I am testing a lot to get some idea of which meals affect me most but I intend to cut back on this when I have a better idea of what certain foods do to me. I got some figures from somewhere which stated the 1 hour after eating and 2 hour after eating targets, but can't remember where they came from.

With these results, should I be aiming to still reduce my carb intake?

Interesting

as you asked for an opinion, mine is the less the better, id happily eat zero carbs per meal if it was practical, im not suggesting your numbers arent good, but if i get a 6 i want a 5, if i get a 5 i want a 4.5 and so on to the bottom, i am disapointed if my number isnt in the 4`s

im happy to be considered obsessed
