Optipen Pro1, is it worth it

Has anyone used a Optipen Pro 1, I went to collect my prescription and got a optipen instead of my Lantus. I had an appointment to see a diabetic nurse the next day, so I asked about the optipen (I was told to ask the chemist?) we just make-up the prescriptions says the chemist, Can I return it??? The chemist asked if the pen had any needles in it, yes the 2 new sealed needles that came with it; I've only opened the box to see what it was! Its brand new, I have to destroy it if it's returned because of the needles red tape say's the chemist.
I ended up at prescription window where the junkies get their methadone trying to return or find why I had been given this new pen that I have no idea how to use, the lady at the window went to speak to a doctor, when she returned I was told it's to replace Lantus and the diabetic nurse would advise me about it's use....
In the end I got a prescription for Lantus and got to keep the optipen and a new appointment to see the diabetic nurse... one day they might give me the insulin cartridges that go in the pen.

I have been type 1 for almost 2 years without any problems, why do I need to change medication when I feel really fine.

Sorry for moaning

Alan

hello Alan,
I use an Autopen 24(made by Owen Mumford) for my lantus.
I wasn't aware that the optipen pro 1 was still available. I did hear of problems
with the optipen pro 1s going wrong, but I ran the batteries down on three
without any of them breaking.

good luck,
timo.
