Overdose of insulin - no effect

Was you at all worried when you injected that amount? Knowingly injecting that amount would cause quite alot of stress/anxiety waiting for something to happen, even if subconsciously. That would cause a considerable rise in levels and may of counteracted some of it, as well as food and feeling poorly. Still, sorry to say a silly thing to do. if you need help, just ask, (easier said than done, I know) you don't need to do anything silly, honestly plenty of people here to support you if you need it. But, in order for people to help you, you have to also help yourself. if your sugar levels are erratic, this will not help your thinking, if your depressed, this wil not help you to want to help yourself. make an appointment to see your gp, bring someone with you for moral support, but if you would rather not, go alone, they can be very understanding IF you are honest with them. Contact your dsn and ask for an urgent appointment to see if additional support could be offered to you, even if temporary. Let us all know how your doing, any advice needed, plenty of people in same boat as you who understand how hard mentally and physically this is on a day to day basis. Take care.

Hi all nicnak68 here, but with a new name as forgot my password.
I think I wanted something to happen when I overdosed, to have a big hypo and end up in hospital.
I'm not sure what to say to my diabetic nurse, I tried to talk to my husband - he didn't understand. I will ring the nurse in the morning and hopefully go and see her tomorrow.
Thank you for all your kindness today, I don't know what help I can be given but I will try, I'm always the one who listens and gives advice - I don't do talking about me, I bottle it all up - think I'm not important enough x

When talking to your gp/dsn, just be honest, without knowing how you are feeling and coping they can't help you. Feel better soon

There is no shame in saying you need help, go to your GP and ask for a referral to your local mental health unit. Talking can help you develop ways of coping with your individual stresses.
You have made a start by posting here please take the next step.

Talking from experience it can help to lay it all out to someone who has Not been involved either emotionally or professionally as they can give you unbiased support. If anyone tells you to pull yourself together give them the evil eye from me ;-) x

Hi! Please, please, please speak to dsn or doctor. Diabetes is a lot to deal with when it's going well and can seem completely overwhelming when it's not. When I joined this forum I learned for the first time about diabetes burnout and it was such revelation to know I wasn't alone in how I felt. You are hugely important and deserve to feel happy and empowered and worthy. It can sometimes feel that people aren't interested or don't care when really they just don't know how much you are suffering and struggling. Speaking to a mental health profession is a great idea when you feel you are not coping on your own. The more support you have the stronger you will feel. Isolation is corrosive. Always remember that this forum is packed to the rafters with people on intimate terms with all the emotional highs and lows of diabetes. We are a community and the support here is second to none. I can honestly say I would never have reached the point I am at without this forum. You are worth every effort you can possibly make to gain control of your diabetes and your life. Treat yourself the way you would treat the person you love most in the world. It might be a bit of a cliche but "be your own best friend". I care about what happens to you. I care that you are in a dark place and I care that you succeed in coming back out into the light. Sorry if I've gotten carried away here but I have been where you are and know now that no one should ever feel so low down

Hi Nicnak,
Good to hear you're feeling a bit better and keeping in contact. What you describe is not 'feeling sorry for yourself' -- it's depression, and depression can be as dangerous and debilitating a condition as diabetes, indeed more so. You should feel no more embarrassment in asking for assistance with it than you would in asking for testing strips. But you know the NHS -- you need to keep up the pressure.

I'm sure you're not as big of a burden as you seem to think. We all have problems, and I'm sure that if someone you love had similar problems you wouldn't see them as a burden.

Fingers crossed that you get the help you need! I remember how horrific I felt before I was diagnosed as bipolar and given the correct treatment... it's not something I would wish on even my worst enemy. Best of luck and do let us know how you get on with all this :thumbup:

not what you are worried about i take between 180 to 220 units in 24 hours its not done me any harm for over 15 years now

I've been through this before, quite a few years ago now. The docs wouldn't believe me, but it was because of the insulin I was on. I became totally resistant to it. I started having to inject enormous amounts and still having highs. And I also had bad depression and was suicidal. My mum got me to change my insulin over to a different one, and it sorted it over night. I used to use Humalog, and changed over to Nova Rapid. What insulin are you on for meals?

You sound depressed, maybe you could ask your doctor for help with that?
As for the insulin having no effect, are you using an insulin pen? Check the cartridge! Recently I've had quite a few cartridges that developed fine cracks in the glass, but because the insulin leaks out under the label I couldn't tell they were leaking. I did loads of corrective doses but my BG went up to 25, as the insulin was just leaking out rather than going into me. Try a new cartridge or pen.
High BG can really affect your mood though. Hope you're feeling ok now.
