Hello I am 71. Type 2 and have been on Galvumet. Recently put on TRULICITY which was so bad. Felt like I was being poisoned and the very bad side effects never improved. Off it now and feeling better slowly. Good luck. It’s a very depressing journey trying to get the right medication. I feel like a Guinea pig. I am in New ZealandHas anyone any thoughts or views on going onto either of these drugs. Not having any faith in gps practice. I've high insulin resistance. I fast for about 12 hours. I don't lose weight etc when carbs are around 100. Only seems to work when carbs are around 20g My BG raises in the morning. Even on long term low carb I can get spikes of nearly 19 after a carb meal of about 10g carbs. Occasionally my BG gets down to 8.3 but more often over 12. Last HBA1C was 73.
I write a food diary but can find no correlation between foods and spikes.
Currently I'm on alogliptin (one year) . I've never felt this worked. I currently get blurred vision after a meal or I fall asleep.
I am struggling and any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you for reading.
You only have to inject it once a week. I tried it for 10 weeks and side effects were a nightmare. Fairly new drug I think. I won’t ever take it again. It’s not insulin. It does work but at what cost. I had extreme nausea, diahore, fatigue and it completely disrupted my life. I felt like I was being poisoned.I have what likely is a daft question, but why is Ozempic or Trulicity used rather than insulin ?

I’m sorry to hear you had such a rough ride with this, it really varies in how we react to it. I have IBS and was pretty doubtful about the digestive side effects, but in my case I was mildly nauseous for 2-3 weeks when I started it, but haven’t had any problems after that. It’s much better for me to have meds that go straight into my body, rather than have to go through the vagaries of my dodgy digestive system (Metformin was definitely making the IBS worse here). We’re probably the two ends of the scale in how Trulicity might go - I would love to see a clinical trial figuring out why people react to it so differently! You only have to inject it once a week. @missy1967 Did you have to change meds? I am asking because I have had to increase my Victosa to 1.8mg from 1.2mg due to suddenly high fasting BGs. I have been on it since 2019, although d/c for a short while in 2020. But been back on it since 2021. I have heard some people suggesting changing from one type of GLP-1 agonist to another. Considering trying Trulicity instead of Victosa, hence my question.Currently on Oxempic 1mg, I have been taking this GLP1 for the last 3 years, however my BG has become very irratic since Dec 2022 and my Hb1Ac has jumped back up into the 70's. I fear that as like when on Trulicity I will have to be changed over onto another med, not looking forward to that to be honest as the Oxempic has been the best so far until recently.
