@daisyThank you , just hearing that someone had this and survived is a huge help . I know nothing about diabetes and being blind I always assumed it meant you just couldn't have sugar . Think I'm going to call back and see how soon the nurse can see me . At least I will feel something's happening then . Thank you again x
Thanks Enclave I was searching for her username!@daisy1 tagged for you
Hi and welcome, Joy. I'm so sorry to hear you have this foot problem and you must be feeling so worried and confused. Hopefully we can give you information that helps with that. Do ask your doctor questions until you fully understand the situation. They are there to help you and that means answering any and every question no matter how long it takes.Hi I was diagnosed Tuesday T2 . It would appear I have been diabetic for quite a few years , and only came to light when my foot started hurting and in a few days went purple and I have immense pain . It appears this is due to blocked arteries in my leg ! As you can imagine I am petrified at the moment , in so much pain all the time . My doctor just basically told me what I had , said it was serious and I needed to understand it was going to mean a complete change of life style , gave me aspirin and tablets to lower my cholesterol and said the diabetic nurse would be In touch and he would contact the vascular surgeon for an appointment urgently . I know it's only been 48 hours but I'm so worried , I have no idea what I can eat . And now I think every little pain is a blocked artery . Has anyone had anything similar ?
That's shocking that they didn't test for diabetes at A&E. Waiting for an infection to clear without testing for diabetes? That's bad... if diabetes is present an infection takes a lot longer to clear and there is a high risk of the infection worsening. All they would have had to do is a fingerprick test with a meter, which they have right there.Hi , I'm 46 , and I've never really gone to the doctors , except for pregnancy and smears . Think I've been more in the last 2 weeks than the last 2 years . I was actually told by 4 doctors ( 2 at the A/E ) it was an infection and given antibiotics . Despite them suspecting then I was diabetic . I was told by one doctor to wait until the infection went and then sort out if I was diabetic or not . Even the doctor who actually diagnosed it on Tuesday said he was amazed they didn't realise what it was x
Yes, a lot of people say the same when they are first diagnosed. Your doctor probably stressed the seriousness of it to make sure you would be committed to making changes, but I'm sure you are willing to do what is needed without being too scared of the future. It does get easier, once you get used to it. Read the success stories section of the forum and you'll see how quickly people have been able to turn it around and get their blood test results back into the non diabetic range. I find those stories encouraging. You can still have treat foods every now and then, and if you make mistakes they are easily fixed.Thank you , it so nice to have people to talk to , feel like my life has been turned upside down in 48 hours . Sure s lot of people have felt like that x
