Type 2 Paying for Glucose Test Strips & Lancets in Scotland

Hi, I got a prescription from NHS Diabetes Doctor in Scotland but Boots Chemist say its a Private one even though it has my NHS GP name on. Prescription cones to £31 (gulp). Waiting for a call back from GP but is this right that these are not available on NHS like the drug I am taking. In Scotland NHS prescriptions are free so got a huge shock. Thanks
 
Yeah , dont rub it in please...prescriptions are not free for everyone in england...!!!!

Not to worry.

I'm at an age where prescriptions are free anyway, but, I have been told that I will have to pay for any test strips or lancets above the level 'they' deem appropriate. At the moment I'm ok as they are asking for five tests per day, so I have enough on prescription. So, you might have to argue an increase in your quota
 
I'm paying $76.00 for 100 test strips on my aviva accu check here in Canada (about £42).

Scandalous! In a bad year I would have paid over £1200 for strips alone had I not lived in England. But I worry the way our NHS is going, especially for more serious conditions like these....

That's about the same price here in Australia.

My Performa strips are around $65.00 per 100 box, my Freedom Lite strips are around the same price.

I do however, get them subsidised by being a member of the NDSS, and get them both for $1.30 per 100 box.

I’ve been in your position at the start of my diabetes in 2010. I kept buying strips on my own to gauge how my numbers were. I have had extensive bowel surgery (90% removed). After this I was taken off oral meds (especially Metformin) and substituted with insulin. Now I get free strips and stuff. It’s unfair for anyone with diabetes to pay for prescriptions regardless of geography.
