I've been glucose intolerent for several years and was diagnosed as type 2 in July last year with an HbIac of 7.2. There was some question as to whether a period of severe stress had contributed to this high score and so it was decided that I would not start on medication and would see what a reduction in stress and a change in diet would do . By October i was down to 5.9, having lost nearly a stone in weight. During this time I tested every day and got a fairly good idea of how foods affected me. Unfortunately I had to have an unrelated operation and then got several infections. All this led to rather erratic, although not particularly high, readings and so I gave up testing as I felt it wasn't really giving an accurate reflection of how my body was coping with glucose. A further Hb1Ac in November was a very encouraging 5.6. I never got back into testing and actually felt quite liberated by that. I continued eating the way I had been knowing that I was pretty much on the right track and actually felt a lot happier not obsessing over why my reading was 5.5 one morning and 5.8 the next etc.
However, today I had to have two spinal cortisone injections, and knowing that this can increase blood glucose levels I decided it would be best to monitor the effect. So yesterday I tested for the first time since the end of October. Irrationally I half expected to have horrendously high readings, but 2 hrs after my supper last night I was 5.3, my fasting this morning was a lowest ever 5.2, 2 hrs after breakfast was 5.3 and just before my injections 5.1. A very pleasant surprise.
I'll post my readings over the next couple of days if the cortisone injections have made any noticable difference.
