not being able to eat when i like, rudeness, liars and bad weather.
I was at a haloween party last night when my friend came over with all the symptoms of a hypo.
He is not a diagnosed diabetic so i put a clean pin in my pricker and tested his blood. his bg was at 3.8 and when treated as a hypo (with fizzy juice) his bg rose to 6.2. He says that this happens very often.
He's so skinny you could peg your clothes out on him but does'nt seem to have any of the other common symptoms of undiagnosed diabetes.
I told him to see his doctor ASAP and said that he could be diabetic but what do you guys think?
I need to give him some info as he did'nt take the news well at all. Could it be something else or is it more likely to be dibetes?

3.8 isn't very low and if he's not diagnosed diabetic, he's not taking any medication to cause a drop. A rise to 6.2 soon after a fizzy drink isn't terribly serious either.
Your friend could have impaired glucose metabolism, which only a doctor using proper tests can diagnose.
You've done right to send him for a check up.
You don't have enough evidence yet.

You can be hypo without being diabetic. It depends for instance on when he last ate etc. The alcohol will stop the liver producing glucose for energy and quite easily cause a hypo. He really needs to see a doctor and have blood tests done. Medical opinion considers 4 mmol/l to be the 'floor' below which it is considered hypo territory for anybody.
