Please spare a thought

Great news .. Personally I was 2 days in the ICU ward .. And never got past high dependency ward .. And my heart restart line stayed in right up till I left for home (7 days) so he's doing really well.. Just remember that hospital food is never looked forward to .. Would you be allowed to take him a little food in ? My wife provided all my food, as I could not face the hospital food .. This was of a high standard, but I never eat out !

It is good news, hope your father continues to make good progress.
 

Glad to hear your dad is doing well! The appetite will improve in time-mine took a few days after my surgery but the little pots of Ice cream you can get on the hospital menu are a god send and very easy to eat at first even when you can't face proper food-I moved onto soup after that and then my appetite kicked in-Hopefully your dad's will soon as well

When we visited yesterday he had a bit of a funny turn. His blood pressure plummeted, his heart rate rocketed and he felt Ill. We had to leave the room whilst he had several nurses and a surgeon in there, was rather worrying. Staff were very good and explained that this can happen to 1 in 3 patients after the surgery he had and because he suffers from copd, that's making his recovery longer as he he can't produce enough oxygen in blood so he's being given oxygen nasally. Luckily he's still in HDU as there are no beds available on any wards, so he's got constant care. He felt better by the time we left and this morning they've said he's eaten a little, his numbers are normal and he's taken a few steps and feels a lot better this morning. So fingers crossed its upwards and onwards today

I wish you and your dad good luck. I know what you are going through. My type 1 sister went through this 2 years ago.

Hi, no my dad isn't diabetic. He was borderline type 2 last year but changed his diet and his bg has stayed at a regular normal level ever since, so his dr said he's no longer borderline and to carry on with his 'new' diet.

Same thing happened to me day after op but soon got through it. As for the appetite, still having problems after 3 months but I believe it's all the medication you need to take for a few months after the op. Little and often seems to be the way to go.
 
Pleased to hear he's doing well, Nicola. Hope it continues.
 
Finally brought my dad home today from hospital after a few ups and downs the past week. He's a lot better now and his breathing has greatly improved. We've settled him at his house, done a few bits for him and I've cooked him a dinner for tomorrow and Monday which he can heat up in microwave. He's happy to be home but still needs to take things easy and have plenty of rest as he tires very easily.
